Preserving and Expanding Access to the Archive of Organic Architecture

A growing archive of original drawings, documents, photographs, and design records from architects and designers of the organic architecture movement.

The Organic Architecture + Design Archives preserves materials that are increasingly at risk of being lost, dispersed, or overlooked - materials that are now being actively entrusted to OA+D for long-term care and access.

Significant collections have already been placed with the archive, including a major body of material - more than 60,000 documents - entrusted through the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. These materials represent an important portion of the archive and reflect the level of trust placed in OA+D as a steward.

Since 2013, the archive has continued to grow through the preservation of works connected to architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Bruce Goff, and Paolo Soleri, with additional collections continuing to emerge and require care.

Why This Work Matters

Many materials arrive in varying conditions and require careful, hands-on work to stabilize, catalog, and make accessible. Without this effort, important records of architectural history risk being lost or remaining unavailable for study.

As the archive grows, so does the need for the resources, expertise, and infrastructure required to properly manage and preserve these collections.

What This Work Requires

Preserving and providing access to these materials involves:

  • Archival preservation and conservation

  • Cataloging and digitization

  • Research and public access

  • Support for exhibitions and academic study

  • Development of the digital archive and online platform

This is ongoing, specialized work that depends on sustained support.
