The Organic Architecture + Design Archives, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) dedicated to preserving and advancing the legacy of organic architecture and design. Through preservation, research access, publications, and institutional collaboration, OA+D supports a creative tradition that remains deeply relevant to contemporary design and cultural history.
As interest in organic and site-responsive design continues to grow, the preservation of original materials plays an essential role in informing future generations of architects, designers, and scholars.
Founded in 2013, OA+D was established in response to a growing need to protect original drawings, documents, and artifacts at risk of being lost, discarded, or overlooked. Since its founding, the archive has grown into a significant and expanding body of material, including works connected to Frank Lloyd Wright, the Taliesin Fellowship, and other leading figures in the organic architecture movement. As the archive continues to expand, so does the need for resources to ensure these materials are properly preserved and made accessible.
Facilities and Collections
OA+D maintains a reading room and research center in Chandler, Arizona, and since 2025 has operated a dedicated archival processing facility supporting conservation, cataloging, and collection management. The online catalog includes nearly 50 named collections, with additional materials in various stages of preservation and processing.
Research and Access
OA+D serves as a resource for researchers, students, curators, and institutions seeking access to original materials from the organic architecture movement. The archive supports academic research, exhibitions, publications, and ongoing scholarship in the field.
Efforts to expand the digital archive and online platform continue to improve access to collections for research, education, and institutional collaboration.
Publications
The Journal of Organic Architecture + Design, published three times per year, along with book monographs and related publications, shares original research, rare archival material, and new scholarship in the field. These publications play an important role in extending the reach and impact of the archive.
Support and Engagement
OA+D invites individuals and institutions to engage with the archive through publications, research access, and membership in the Friends of OA+D program.
Support contributes directly to archival preservation, cataloging, research access, exhibitions, and the continued development of the digital archive.
